Buckshaw Village Centre

We currently run four courses per year from our Buckshaw Village Centre in Chorley (Jan, April, July and September).

What Does the Course Consist of?

Each course runs for 10 weeks and is delivered through a combination of Sunday drives and three classroom sessions (which provide a relaxed and friendly environment where along with your fellow course associates, you will be introduced to the course, learn about core driving theory & skills and even meet one of our examiners).

Each Sunday morning throughout your course, we will take you out for some driving practice. This will mostly be in your car with you driving and one of our trained observers in the passenger seat, who will show and explain a variety of advanced driving skills.

Sunday drives are delivered via “Mass Guidance”, which simply means that you will go out with different observers each week! Each sesssion is tailored to your individual needs, whilst ensuring that you are coached on all core content at the appropriate point in the course. At the end of each drive, your observer will discuss with you how things have gone, what you have learned and which areas you could usefully practice before the next Sunday drive.

In this way, with our friendly guidance, advice and support, you will learn how to implement your new road skills and techniques as part of your every-day driving, making you a better driver with greater confidence behind the wheel.

Each course includes the following features:

  • Induction Evening – Held on a Monday evening prior to your course, at Chorley Fire Station
  • 10 observed runs with a qualified National Observer – Consecutive Sundays from Tesco at Buckshaw Village (9:50am start)
  • Theory Evening – Held on a Monday evening between weeks 4 & 5 at Chorley Fire Station
  • Meet an Examiner Evening – Held on a Monday evening around week 8 or 9, at Chorley Fire Station
  • The Test/Assessment

In addition, you will receive an Associate Handbook from IAM Roadsmart, a current version of the Highway Code and a year’s membership of both IAM Roadsmart and Lancashire Advanced Motorists Group.

If you are interested in the advanced driving course but are unable to attend on Sundays, please contact us as we may be able to make alternative arrangements. However, this will be on a case by case basis and strictly by prior arrangement only – all of our observers are volunteers and have committed to providing their time on Sundays, whilst availability on other days will be limited and cannot be guaranteed. Please highlight your requirements on the contact form.
